"Vigorish" and Your Online Casino  16 Nov 2006

The term "Vigorish" often used in the online casino industry may not always be clear to everyone. The term which is Yiddish slang and is derived from the Russian word for "winnings". Some times an online casino could use the term "vig" or "juice" instead what ever the word used the meaning is the amount charged by a bookmaker or an online casino for his services.

The vigorish in an online casino is the amount of money paid to the online casino regardless the outcome of the bet. In other words Vigorish is the amount of money a player will pay the online casino whether he wins the bet or whether he looses. Vigrorish takes on different meanings in different games. For example, in some online casino websites a $100 bet could cost $110 and only payout $200 (as apposed to $220 at a 2:1 bet) the $10 not doubled is the vigorish.

Online casino poker players call the vigorish a rake, this rake is the percentile of the bet placed in the pot and not fully returned upon winning. In Baccarat, the vigorish is the 5% commission paid by online casino players who win a bet on the "bankers" hand. Other online casino games also have a vigorish, such as Pai-Gow, where the vigorish is the 5% commission paid on a winning bet this is also true in craps, where the vigorish is charged on "buy" bets.
